- Set the fan to “auto” on your thermostat – the auto setting works with automatic programming of your system, while the “on” setting will have the fan running constantly, regardless of whether or not the system is actually on. This can lead to higher utility bills.
- Schedule annual maintenance – annual maintenance (bi-annual for heat pumps) is a full tune-up of your air conditioning system. This means the components of your system are cleaned, checked and lubricated, allowing the system to run optimally all summer long.

- Use a programmable thermostat – there’s no sense in cooling an empty house, and with a programmable thermostat, you can program your thermostat to power down your AC during the times when no one is home.
