Emergency Cooling Tips for When Your Atlanta AC Breaks
August 15, 2016

One of the most important jobs that we do for our customers is to come to their assistance quickly when they run into an air conditioning emergency. When the summer heat is higher than 90°F or 100°F, a broken AC is a potential disaster. We offer 24-hour emergency service to respond to your needs as fast as possible.

Although we’re known for our fast response time, we can’t teleport to you! (Believe us, if we could, we would!) You’ll still have a period to wait in the heat. Below we have some tips on keeping cool and safe until our rescue team arrives.

  • Make the most of the fans in your house. If the air conditioning system still has power to its fan even if it can’t supply cooling, keep the fan going to create air circulation that will help everyone feel cooler. Use ceiling fans as well, or standing fans if you have them.
  • However, don’t use any other electrical or heat-producing devices aside from the fans. Save cooking for another time, as well as doing the laundry (both of which will also put unwanted moisture in the air).
  • You can rig up a simple evaporative air conditioner using a fan and ice cubes. Place the ice cubes in a bowl and set the bowl in front of a fan. The fan will blow out air that has lost heat to the ice. This is a good way to provide “spot” cooling to a small area of your home where people can gather.
  • Another way to cool down the air in the house is with wet sheets hung over the windows. This is a method that goes back to ancient Egypt.
  • Keep your own body cooled down with plenty of ice-cold drinks. Wear loose clothing and confine your activity to restful pastimes like reading a book.
